Automatic Hi-Beat 36000 cal. 9S85 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Watch
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 9S caliber, the Grand Seiko team has designed a stainless steel watch that pays tribute to the high-precision 9S caliber. A new interpretation of the most admired Grand Seiko created by Nobuhiro Kosugi, the designer of the first 9S watch. The watch is designed with a stainless steel case and the design of the dial incorporates a special mark with alternate GS letters in a mosaic that radiates from the center of the dial in a geometric pattern. The 9S85 conforms to the Grand Seiko standard with an accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day. The stainless steel design also has a special oscillating weight made of titanium and tungsten with the titanium surface colored blue by an anodic oxidation process.
The challenge of making a high-speed movement is just that a few travelers choose to accept. With its higher oscillation rate of ten beats per second, greater accuracy can be achieved, but this greater precision comes at a price because the speed of the faster rotation can make the dent in the reserve of energy and even in the longevity of all the movement .
The movement of 10 strokes of Grand Seiko meets these challenges and offers an accuracy of + 5 to -3 seconds per day, a reserve of energy of 55 hours and the duration of all Grand Seiko famous son watches. Caliber 9S85 is the result of many years of development and advances in the design and manufacture of components as in the materials themselves.
Limited edition of 1,500 pieces.

Grand Seiko SBGH267G History :
Prior to 1960, to challenge the status of Swiss watches and change the perception of Japanese watches, Daini Seikosha and Suwa began the discussion of a product line that can match the quality of Swiss watches under the suggestion of the parent company. At the time, Suwa Seikosha Co. was in charge of manufacturing men’s watches, so it was decided that Suwa would be producing the first Grand Seiko (GS).
The first Grand Seiko was released in 1960, it was based on Seiko’s previous high-end watch, CROWN. This Grand Seiko has a 25-jewel, manual-winding, 3180 caliber, and only 36,000 units were produced. This was also the first chronometer-grade watch manufactured in Japan, and it was based on Seiko’s own chronometer standard.
Design style
The design language of the Grand Seiko was set in 1967, with the creation of Grand Seiko 44GS. The 44GS set the ground for all future Grand Seiko with nine elements. These elements help improve the legibility of the watch under different situations, and create a sharp, crisp visual impression:
- Double width index at 12 o’clock
- Multi-faceted rectangular markers
- Highly polished bezel
- Highly polished planes and two-dimensional surface
- Half recessed crown
- Flat dial
- Multi-faceted hour and minute hands
- Curved side line
- Reverse slanted bezel wall and case side
- Dress style with simple but beautiful design
- Zaratsu polishing
