Solar Chronograph World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 Limited Edition
Seiko and World Athletics
Since 1987, Seiko has been the timekeeper of choice for World Athletics, the world championships of track and field. In 2025, the World Athletics Championships return to Tokyo for the first time in 34 years, and Seiko will once again deploy its state-of-the-art timing equipment in the city of its founding, marking a momentous event in its history in sports timing.
In commemoration of World Athletics 2025, Seiko marks the latest chapter in this legacy with a Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph limited edition while honoring the performances of the approximately 2,000 athletes who will take part in the championships.
Dial
The dial of the limited edition Speedtimer has been created in a beautiful shade inspired by “Edo purple”, a color that was cherished in the ancient city that would become modern-day Tokyo. As a nod to Tokyo’s historical name of Edo, the hue was chosen as the official color of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.
Case back
The back of the watch features the event emblem with the limited number of 6,000 pcs.
This Seiko Prospex Speedtimer has been created to commemorate the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships where Seiko will be Official Timekeepers, continuing the brand’s heritage of watchmaking and timekeeping.
The dial of this Seiko Prospex Speedtimer is the official brand color of the championships. ‘Edo-Murasaki’, meaning Tokyo Purple, is one of Japan’s official traditional heritage colors – originally from a textile dye using purple grass native to Musashino during the period when Tokyo was known as Edo.
The case back of the Prospex Speedtimer features the World Athletics Championship Tokyo 2025 logo, and the limited edition number. This solar powered chronograph watch is conveniently charged from both natural and electric light and its chronograph functionality allows for the accurate measurement of elapsed time. Powered by an in-house V192 solar-charged movement, accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month, with a 6 month power reserve at full charge, it’s water resistant to 100m.

About Seiko Prospex SSC955
History of Seiko
The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewerly shop called “K. Hattori” (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha, meaning roughly “House of Exquisite Workmanship”.
The first watches produced under the Seiko brand appeared in 1924. In 1969, Seiko introduced the Astron, the world’s first production quartz watch, it cost the same as a medium-sized car. Seiko later went on to introduce the first quartz chronograph.
