CITIZEN Mechanical NJ0157-81L Features
First TSUYOSA x seconde/seconde/ collaboration
In collaboration with French creative agency seconde/seconde/, CITIZEN has set out to bring even more fun and creativity to your wrists.
The special model created as a result of this collaboration is based on the concept of bringing art and watches together with a touch of humor. A sharp Japanese sword, the katana, plays a central role in this.
The CITIZEN TSUYOSA x seconde/seconde/ collaboration model is limited to 3,600 pieces worldwide.
Fanciful power, artistry and a katana
For this collaboration model NJ0157-81L, seconde/seconde/ was inspired by the name TSUYOSA, which means ‘power’ and ‘strength’ in Japanese. The artist Romaric André (seconde/seconde/) took the minute hand as a symbol of this very power and strength and transformed it into a katana.
The samurai sword is designed in the pixel art style of Japanese retro video games, which are known and loved around the world. With a humorous touch, the razor-sharp sword appears to have split the indices in two, resulting in a unique and unusual dial design with a little story behind it.
The dial and handle of the sword are finished in an attractive blue color. The clasp of the bracelet is decorated with sword cuts, and a powerful message from seconde/seconde/ is printed on the case back:
“Being smaller has never stopped Minutes from slicing Hours into pieces.”
Translated: ‘Their smaller size has never stopped them from cutting hours into minutes.’
- 21 jewels
- Date display
- Approximately 42 hours power reserve
About CITIZEN Mechanical NJ0157-81L
History of Citizen
The company was founded in 1930 by Japanese and Swiss investors. It took over Shokosha Watch Research Institute (founded in 1918) and some facilities of the assembly plant opened in Yokohama in 1912 by the Swiss watchmaker Rodolphe Schmid.
The brand Citizen was first registered in Switzerland by Schmid in 1918 for watches he sold in Japan. The development of this brand was supported in the 1920s by Count Gotō Shinpei with his hope that watches could become affordable to the general public. The growth of Citizen until World War II relied on technology transfer from Switzerland.
