About Grand Seiko STGF387
Grand Seiko Ladies Cherry Blossom “Hana-Ikada” Heritage Collection
An elegant 26mm quartz watch joins the cherry-blossom-inspired 62GS range
A new 26mm quartz model enhances the 62GS lineup with the option of a discreetly elegant size. The original 62GS launched in 1967 and debuted Grand Seiko’s first automatic movement, becoming one of Grand Seiko’s most memorable timepieces. Reinterpreting this timeless design, this model uses a dial that expresses the unique seasonal changes of Japan. It evokes hana-ikada, the beautiful “flower raft” scene in which cherry blossom petals are swept from their branches by spring breezes before settling on river surfaces. As with the original 62GS, a bezel-free construction grants the dial an expansive appearance, with the Zaratsu polishing technique creating a striking, multifaceted case design. Despite the case’s small size, its design ensures perfect legibility. The symmetrically arranged diamonds contribute to the watch’s brilliance, and the movement inside is the quartz Caliber 4J51, which achieves an accuracy of ±10 seconds per year.
Grand Seiko STGF387 Features
Dial expressing the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms covering the water’s surface
In the period just after the spring equinox, one can observe a phenomenon in which cherry blossom petals are scattered by the wind and fall to the surfaces of rivers, forming a delicate, floating shape that resembles a raft. In Japan, cherry blossoms are appreciated all the more after they fall from their branches. This model’s dial adopts a pale-pink pattern that instantly channels the wistful beauty of such fallen cherry blossoms. Diamonds are arranged symmetrically on the dial, achieving a harmony of aesthetic beauty and legibility. This contributes to the brilliant and pleasant dial design. Despite the case’s small size, its design ensures the dial’s legibility. Its 26-mm diameter allows this watch to blend easily with any ensemble, making this quartz model both beautiful and functional.

Grand Seiko STGF387 History
Prior to 1960, to challenge the status of Swiss watches and change the perception of Japanese watches, Daini Seikosha and Suwa began the discussion of a product line that can match the quality of Swiss watches under the suggestion of the parent company. At the time, Suwa Seikosha Co. was in charge of manufacturing men’s watches, so it was decided that Suwa would be producing the first Grand Seiko (GS).
The first Grand Seiko was released in 1960, it was based on Seiko’s previous high-end watch, CROWN. This Grand Seiko has a 25-jewel, manual-winding, 3180 caliber, and only 36,000 units were produced. This was also the first chronometer-grade watch manufactured in Japan, and it was based on Seiko’s own chronometer standard.
Design style
The design language of the Grand Seiko was set in 1967, with the creation of Grand Seiko 44GS. The 44GS set the ground for all future Grand Seiko with nine elements. These elements help improve the legibility of the watch under different situations, and create a sharp, crisp visual impression:

- Highly polished planes and two-dimensional surface
- Half recessed crown
- Flat dial
- Multi-faceted hour and minute hands
