SEIKO Presage SPB537 Features

Seiko Presage Classic Series Craftmanship Model In Enamel With Tonneau Dial and Roman Numerals

This ‘Tonneau’ style Presage Classic Series Craftsmanship model pays homage to Seiko’s vast history in timekeeping and the pocket watches created at the time of the Seikosha establishment as it was known in the late 1800s.

The dial and numerals of this design pay homage to the very first Seikosha (as Seiko was then known) pocket watch; the ‘Timekeeper,’ launched in 1895, when Seiko moved from repairing clocks and watches to creating them.

Under the dual-curve sapphire dial is a white enamel dial, featuring bold Roman numerals. It features a 24-hour sub dial at the 6 o’clock position. With a super-hard coating for increased scratch resistance, the timepiece comes in a Tonneau case shape for a classical style. Named from the French word for barrel, a ‘tonneau’ watch design is shaped a little like a barrel – with convex edges curving outwards in a longer case.

Powered by an in-house crafted 6R5H automatic caliber, this timepiece is accurate to -15/+25 seconds per day with a three-day power reserve.

Seiko Presage: Timeless looks, precise mechanical timekeeping. Minimalistic watch designs with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic.

*This enamel watch dial is manufactured by firing it at a high temperature. The process of melting enamel may create small dimples, tiny dots, and a rough surface. These attributes are unique features of genuine enamel watch dials, of which no two are exactly alike.

Seiko Presage SPB537

This elegant enamel-dialed wristwatch pays homage to one of Seiko’s most important early creations – the company’s very first pocket watch, the Timekeeper of 1895.

A lustrous white enamel dial creates a striking contrast with the thick black Roman numerals and blued hands, resulting in a design that is at once timeless and easy to read at a glance.

Seiko Presage SPB537
The watch is powered by Caliber 6R5H, an automatic mechanical movement equipped with a 24-hour display at 6 o’clock. A railroad minutes track encircling the dial enhances the design’s legibility while adding an unmistakable vintage flair to this special watch.

Enamel Craftsman: Mitsuru Yokosawa

Mitsuru Yokosawa
For almost half a century, Mitsuru Yokosawa has been expanding the boundaries of enamel, mastering time-honored techniques and gradually creating new ones. As his experience broadened, the layers of enamel he was able to apply became thinner and thinner. He is now able to apply a flawless enamel coat just 0.1 mm thin. Such precision requires not only exceptional visual acuity, but also the seemingly magical ability to make minute adjustments to the enamel composition based on fluctuations in humidity and weather conditions. Aptly, it would take the skills of a magician to create the face of the new Seiko Presage.

SEIKO Presage SPB537 History

Presage. The product of a century and more of experience

In 1913, Seiko made its first mechanical watch. 1956, Seiko made its first automatic watch. 1958 Seiko created its shock resistant system, Diashock, to preserve precision when the movement is subject to impact. 1959, Seiko invented the Magic Lever spring winding mechanism, and in 1964, it started producing balance springs in-house, utilizing its own specially developed alloy, Spron. 1967, Seiko created Japan’s first hi-beat caliber. 1969, Seiko made the world’s first automatic chronograph with vertical clutch and column wheel systems and in 2014 Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking skills were rewarded with a prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for its hi-beat caliber.

For over a century, Seiko has developed and refined its mechanical watchmaking skills. Today, all this experience comes together in a new, all-mechanical, collection named Presage. Presage has already been successful in Japan and selected other markets for some time. Now Presage goes global and takes center stage as Seiko’s leading mechanical watch collection.

A living heritage

The new Presage collection draws its inspiration from Seiko’s heritage in mechanical watchmaking, which stretches all the way back to 1913 and the celebrated Laurel which was Seiko’s, and Japan’s, first ever wrist watch. This heritage is brought to life today in two very special Limited Edition automatic chronographs whose design echoes that of the 1913 Laurel and whose dials are made in the finest traditions of Japanese artistry, one in enamel and the other with lacquer. Both use the 8R48 caliber, which has vertical clutch and column wheel systems, and incorporates Seiko’s unique three-pointed hammer to ensure the perfect synchronization of the hands’ fly-back. Both are offered in editions of 1,000 in celebration of Seiko’s 60 years of automatic watch making and will be available in September.

Presage: A wide range of calibers, designs and tastes

Presage is a collection of broad appeal. It comprises 60 models and uses the full range of Seiko’s mechanical calibers, from the accessible 4R, through 6R to the exclusive 8R. Highlights include the 6R27 multi-hand power reserve model and a series using an entirely new version of the 4R57 caliber. This new caliber is Seiko’s first ever with a center power reserve indicator, and is available in a series of five designs, including a limited edition. Every Presage watch has 10 bar water resistance and a sapphire crystal.

Japan is a land with a long and unbroken cultural history and therefore values tradition very highly. Long-lasting beauty and long-lasting performance express the deep desires of Japanese culture and are therefore at the heart of Japanese craftsmanship. Both in design and manufacturing values, Presage belongs firmly in this tradition and offers the very highest levels of reliability and durability over time. Each Presage watch is built to last for generations.
