SEIKO Prospex SRQ059 Features
Seiko Prospex Seiko 145th Anniversary Speedtimer Automatic Chronograph
Limited Edition of 700 pieces

In celebration of Seiko’s 145th anniversary, a special limited edition model tracing Seiko’s legacy is now available.
In 2026, Seiko will celebrate its 145th anniversary. Since its founding in 1881, the company has viewed watches as a potential solution to social challenges, consistently pursuing innovation while upholding founder Kintaro Hattori’s philosophy to be “always one step ahead of the rest.” This new Speedtimer mechanical chronograph features warm gold-colored accents symbolizing success and prosperity.
The new watch also features a dial pattern inspired by the design that was engraved on Kintaro’s early timepieces, reinterpreted to include a sporty look that ensures legibility. Set against a white dial, gold-colored accents help to evoke a classic elegance.
Shaped by heritage, this 145th-anniversary watch finds inspiration in the flowing designs and elegantly contoured bracelets of Speedtimer chronographs created in the 1960s and 1970s.
This limited edition timepiece is one of a small collection to commemorate the 145th Anniversary of the beginnings of Seiko as a Tokyo clock and watch repair shop in 1881.
These pieces take design and watchmaking inspiration from moments in Seiko’s history, bringing them up to date for today with the latest technical and design innovations and gold-colored accents.
The Seiko Speedtimer was a major innovation milestone in 1969 – the world’s first automatic chronograph watch with column wheel and vertical clutch, still prerequisite in high functionality chronographs for accurately measuring elapsed time.
This 2026 design is inspired by a classic from the archives; the 1972 Seiko ‘Panda.’ Under dual-curved sapphire glass, the classic silver-white dial features elegant gold-colored accents for legibility with a different finish. The dial pattern pays homage to the original Japanese pocket watches of the 1890s, when Seiko moved from repairing clocks and watches to creating them.
Powered by the in-house built 8R48 mechanical chronograph caliber, this movement allows accurate measurement of elapsed time by combining a vertical clutch and a column wheel in a 49.5 mm lug to lug, 42mm diameter case size. It has a smooth flowing case and elegant multi-row bracelet to ensure a comfortable fit.
The 8R watch movement series has been designed by Seiko for maximum precision with 3 key elements:
1) The Vertical clutch – eliminates shuddering or jumping of the hands when the start/stop button is pushed, enhancing the chronograph’s accuracy and durability
2) The Column wheel – resembles the top of a castle turret, ensures precise control of chronograph operation
3) The 3-pointed hammer – ensures that when the re-set pusher is pressed, all hands return to zero instantly, in perfect synchronization for high durability
Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.

About Seiko Prospex SRQ059
History of Seiko
The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewerly shop called “K. Hattori” (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha, meaning roughly “House of Exquisite Workmanship”.
The first watches produced under the Seiko brand appeared in 1924. In 1969, Seiko introduced the Astron, the world’s first production quartz watch, it cost the same as a medium-sized car. Seiko later went on to introduce the first quartz chronograph.
