SEIKO Prospex SSC961 Features
Speedtimer Solar Chronograph
Dial
The dial is applied sandblast finishing which ensure high levels of readability and legibility crucial to a Prospex sports watch.
Design
The case shape is faithful to the original but its 39mm diameter, the combination of hairline and smooth polishing on the bracelet and the curved sapphire glass bring it right up to date.
The white dial of this Seiko Prospex Speedtimer is inspired by 1980s-90s sports cars, referred to as ‘Youngtimers.’ Modelled on the Seiko SSC813, this Speedtimer inherits the fan-favorite Seiko ‘Panda’ style design, with its black sub dials constrasting the main dial. The motor-sports themed chronograph inherits the flowing form of the 1960-70s Speedtimer models.
As a solar powered chronograph watch, it’s conveniently charged from both natural and electric light with its chronograph functionality accurately measuring elapsed time. Powered by an in-house V192 solar-charged movement, accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month, with a 6 month power reserve at full charge, it’s water resistant to 100m.
Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.

About Seiko Prospex SSC961
History of Seiko
The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewerly shop called “K. Hattori” (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha, meaning roughly “House of Exquisite Workmanship”.
The first watches produced under the Seiko brand appeared in 1924. In 1969, Seiko introduced the Astron, the world’s first production quartz watch, it cost the same as a medium-sized car. Seiko later went on to introduce the first quartz chronograph.
